Lee Creek – Gateway to the North Shuswap
Just 7 minutes off the Trans-Canada highway at Squilax, you’ll find the west end of Shuswap Lake – and Lee Creek, your new home/cottage/place of peace. Lee Creek holds the waterfront areas of McKay Bay and Indigo Bay with beautiful large-modern and rustic dwellings right on the water. The hill behind hosts the small community of Lee Creek Heights.
Scotch Creek – downtown North Shuswap
Is just 7km further up the road. It is the main commercial centre of the North Shuswap with grocery, liquor, gas, restaurants, outdoor venues, and a small industrial park (with space for your business).
The rest of the North Shuswap encompasses the communities of Celista, Magna Bay, Anglemont, St. Ives and further along – Seymour Arm.
Simpson Road
A short street of just 17 homes, almost no traffic, and far enough from the main street (Squilax-Anglemont Road) that you hardly hear any traffic. What you may hear are a few sheep and a couple of chickens.
Your Lot – 2836 Simpson Road
Half way down, on the lake side of Simpson Road is 2836 (Lot 2). Roughly 110m in length with 33.6m of waterfront (roughly 110X300 ft). This is just over the limit of 100ft of beachfront which will allow you two buoys if you wish.
The lot is fairly flat for the most part with the lake end sloping gently towards the lake. The slope is pretty much perfect to build a walk-out basement leading directly to your path to the beach.
Over the last few years, a number of improvements to the lot add to the value you will enjoy: Rock wall at the beach makes sure that high lake levels do not erode at the bottom of the lot; the west 1/3 of your lot is already landscaped with lawn, pear trees, cherry tree and a walnut tree; a potential purchaser a couple of years back put together a house plan taking advantage of the terrain so there is a plan that you could adjust if it suits you (or start from scratch!); an archaeological permit is currently in place for you to begin building immediately (but I’m not sure we can renew that permit again and a new one takes almost a year or more).
The Simpsons
No, not Bart and Homer, but the family that’s been here for almost 80 years. Our fourth generation is now living here and we’re loving it.
Grandpa was a dentist in Langley and an avid fly fisherman. As he was fishing in the Adams River (famous for the sockeye salmon run every 4 years) he befriended the homesteader of this land, Oliver Freeman. The story goes that over a bottle or two they made a deal and grandpa bought roughly 60 acres from Oliver, who was able to stay on the land for the rest of his days. That was in 1948.
The first lot was sold for $200 and over the years the lots and acres have been sold off to pay for things like water systems and paving Simpson Road. Lot 2, your lot, is the last lot left unsold. This is a special lot for us.
